AFRICAN GAMES: OPERYORI WINS FIRST GOLD MEDAL FOR NIGERIA

Anuoluwapo Opeyori has won Nigeria’s first Gold medal at the ongoing 13th African Games in Ghana.

The 2x African Games champion defeated compatriot Godwin Olofua 2-1 (19-21, 21-17, 21-15) in the Final of the men’s badminton singles.

Africa’s number one and defending champion Opeyori defeated H. El-Gamal (Egypt) 2-1 to qualify for the men’s singles final.

Nigeria continued their dominance in badminton as Nigeria’s Victor Ikechukwu won bronze in the men’s singles, while Dorcas Adesokan won bronze in the women’s singles while Sofiat Obanisola and Dorcas won bronze medal in the women’s doubles.

More medals are expected for team Nigeria as Team wrestling have also progressed to the final.
