Ahead of the 2024 Basketball Africa League, reigning Nigerian champions Rivers Hoopers have intensified their preparations for their second appearance in the competition.
With the addition of five new players to the squad, the team played a friendly game against Hoops and Read on Thursday and continued with a light warm-up session at the indoor hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Friday.
Former Patriots point guard William Perry, one of the foreign players who has joined the squad, said he is ready to work with the team and share his experience to ensure Hoopers have a better outing than their first appearance at the 2022 BAL.
‘I may not score 50 points, but the most important thing is that I help my team to victory,’ he said.
‘There is talk on the continent that Nigerian basketball lacks structure; I don’t know how true this is, as I have only been here for two weeks. However, I am committed to helping the team change the narrative, so we can build the league and have people believe in the local league again.’
Nigeria’s Rivers Hoopers are among the clubs that will face Douanes in Dakar, along with US Monastir and APR of Rwanda.
