The Get Healthy Africa Initiative (GHAi), with backing from the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund (NYFF), has unveiled the groundbreaking successes of the Change Champion Project, a six-month initiative that has reshaped communities across Osun State through youth empowerment and digital advocacy.

Launched in mid-2024, the project equipped 30 young leaders with crucial skills in digital advocacy, social media campaigning, storytelling, and community engagement. Their impact has been felt in areas such as education, gender equality, and youth unemployment.

“This initiative has set a new benchmark for youth advocacy in Nigeria. It demonstrates that with the right tools, young people can drive transformative change in their communities,” said Faysol Oluwakemi, Project Coordinator of the Change Champion Project.

One of the most inspiring success stories is that of Barakat Sanni, who launched a digital campaign to promote access to education for girls in underserved areas. “Through digital advocacy, I was able to raise awareness and rally support for a cause I deeply care about. This project has truly been life-changing,” Sanni shared.

Other participants, like Tolu Morakinyo and Aanuoluwaposimi Mary, also made waves with campaigns tackling youth unemployment and gender equality, sparking dialogue and action on critical social issues.

A key highlight of the project was the Community Fact-Finding Mission, where participants identified challenges in education, healthcare, and water sanitation. The mission resulted in targeted advocacy efforts, such as initiatives to improve clean water access in rural areas.

To celebrate these achievements, the GHAi will host the Change Champion Conference on January 11, 2025, in Osogbo, Osun State. Supported by NYFF, the conference will bring together young advocates, community leaders, and stakeholders to reflect on the project’s impact and chart the future of youth-driven social change in Nigeria.

“The conference is more than just a celebration—it’s a platform to showcase the incredible work of these young advocates and inspire others to take action,” said Jelilat Oladejo, Administrative Officer of the Change Champion Project.

During the event, the GHAi Positive Change Fellows will be formally inducted as ambassadors of social change. Registration for the conference is free but mandatory and can be completed at https://shorturl.at/nAT9k.

The Change Champion Project has proven the power of youth empowerment, blending digital tools and grassroots engagement to address critical societal challenges. As the project concludes, the young leaders are poised to sustain their momentum and drive lasting progress in their communities.
