The Tutor General/Permanent Secretary of Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, has applauded the outstanding performance of three students from the district who excelled in two major mathematics competitions held in early December 2024.
Augustine Rachel of Gbagada Senior Grammar School and Adegboye Isaac of Ikorodu Senior High School emerged first and second in the Kings and Queens Mathematics Competition, organized by Pearls Angel Educational Consultancy. The duo received cash prizes of ₦2 million and ₦500,000, respectively.
At the Mathematical Olympiad hosted by the Lagos Chapter of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria, Ms. Amadi Debora Onyedikachi of Lanre Awolokun High School earned the title of Best Female Mathematician. The finals of these competitions took place at the Multilingual Multipurpose Hall, Maryland, and Lagos City College, Yaba, respectively.
Speaking on the students’ achievements, Mrs. Adekanye praised their brilliance and commended the dedication of their teachers. “This is a confirmation of the hard work and commitment of our teachers as well as the students to achieving academic excellence at all levels,” she said.
She also highlighted the importance of mathematics in academic and professional pursuits, emphasizing that the district would continue prioritizing the subject. “Mathematics has become a mainstay in academic requirements for further studies in the country and beyond,” she noted.
Mrs. Adekanye further appreciated Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s commitment to quality and affordable education. “The Governor has consistently placed education on the front burner, creating a level playing field for all children and leveraging technology to enhance learning outcomes,” she added.
The Tutor General also extended gratitude to the district’s teachers and principals for their unwavering commitment to student success, calling their efforts “a key driver of these remarkable achievements.”
