Award-winning health journalist and social development advocate, Faysol Oluwakemi Dokitomoye, is once again making headlines, not for his reporting, but for mobilizing transformative change. His youth-led organization, the Get Healthy Africa Initiative (GHAi), has been awarded a new grant by the prestigious Nigeria Youth Futures Fund (NYFF) to implement a groundbreaking civic-health project in Ondo State.
Announcing the development from Kigali, Rwanda, where he is currently attending the IAS 2025 International AIDS Society Conference, Dokitomoye expressed gratitude via his social media channels:
“We are thrilled to announce this new milestone. It’s a testament to our team’s commitment and the trust we’ve built through consistent, grassroots-driven solutions.”
The new project, titled the Next-Gen Health Governance Project, aims to drive policy reform, civic awareness, and meaningful youth inclusion in Nigeria’s health sector. The initiative will build on GHAi’s proven model of intersectional engagement, which previously earned national attention through The Change Champion Project in Osun State.
That year-long program equipped dozens of young Nigerians with digital advocacy skills to address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly around health, education, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene). It also featured high-level policy dialogues with stakeholders including UNICEF and the Osun State Government.
The new Ondo-based intervention will focus on:
Strengthening community engagement on health policies
Advocating for youth-responsive and inclusive policymaking
Building young leaders’ capacity to navigate and influence governance frameworks
Creating sustainable channels for dialogue between youth and health policymakers
Promoting data-backed advocacy and accountability in public health systems
“This is not just a win for GHAi,” Dokitomoye emphasized.
“It’s a win for every young person passionate about driving change in Nigeria’s health system. Ondo State will serve as our pilot location, but the vision is scalable and designed to influence national discourse.”
With this latest milestone, Get Healthy Africa Initiative further cements its reputation as one of Africa’s leading youth-driven NGOs working at the intersection of policy, advocacy, and social justice.
