A fire broke out on Saturday at the No Sapid Container Terminal in the Mile 2 area of Lagos, prompting an emergency response from state agencies and private fire units, officials said.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said its Eagle Squad, working alongside the Lagos State Fire Service and LRU Fire, arrived at the scene and immediately began efforts to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby facilities.

Preliminary findings by responders indicate that the fire did not start inside the terminal itself but from a building located behind the SAPID container terminal. The building was found to be storing several drums of chemicals and oils, which officials believe ignited and fueled the fire.

“On arrival, our teams went straight into action to contain the fire and stop it from spreading,” LASEMA said in a situation report signed by its Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu.

No deaths or injuries were reported, a development authorities attributed to the swift response of emergency services.

As of Saturday, firefighters were still battling the blaze, which officials said remained intense because of the combustible materials inside the affected building. Operations to fully bring the fire under control were ongoing.

First responders at the scene included LASEMA’s Eagle Team from Cappa, the Lagos State Fire Service, LRU Fire and officers of the Nigeria Police.
