Fire Guts Four-Storey Shopping Plaza on Lagos Island

Emergency responders battle blaze at Ligali Street, Mandilas; no casualties recorded.

A late-night fire outbreak on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, gutted a four-storey shopping plaza on Ligali Street, opposite Zenith Bank, Mandilas, Lagos Island.

According to a preliminary report by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Shark Team of the Lagos Response Team (LRT) received a distress call at about 8:30 pm and swiftly activated the agency’s emergency response plan.

“On arrival of the Shark Team at the scene of the incident, a four-storey building used as a shopping plaza situated within several other storey buildings was found gutted by fire,” the report stated.

While the cause of the inferno remains unknown, officials confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded.

Emergency responders, including the LRU Fire Fighters, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, UBA Fire Fighters, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) personnel, and the Nigeria Police Force, were on the ground working to contain the blaze.

As of press time, firefighting operations were still ongoing.
