In a major stride toward improving infrastructure in Ondo State’s oil-producing areas, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa officially commissioned the newly rehabilitated 32.7-kilometer Alape Junction-Araromi Seaside Road in Ilaje local government area on Tuesday. The project, led by the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), highlights the state’s ongoing commitment to development in riverine communities.
“Our aim is to improve essential facilities, including roads, electricity, clean water, land reclamation, and shoreline protection with a view to reducing or eliminating the longstanding challenges that our communities face in this region,” said Governor Aiyedatiwa. “All these are geared towards making life more bearable for our people in the riverine areas of the State.”
The governor praised the impact of the newly completed road, which he says is already benefiting residents. “Today, it is evident that this road is already positively impacting the lives of the people as envisioned by our administration. Our government’s focus is on projects that bring positive change and improve the well-being of all residents.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted further development plans for Ilaje and Ese-Odo mandate areas, noting, “The mandate areas of Ilaje and Ese-Odo have experienced significant growth, marked by several remarkable projects,” he said. He listed key initiatives such as the 1,000-meter concrete walkway with jetties at Obe Nla, the 28.5km Aboto-Atijere Road, a Mini Water Treatment Scheme at Molutehin, and the new School of Maritime Transport and Logistics at OAUSTECH in Ugbonla.

Princess Abike Bayo-Ilawole, Secretary of OSOPADEC, expressed deep appreciation for the governor’s dedication to the riverine communities, describing the road as transformative. “This road is more than just an infrastructure project; it represents a lifeline for our communities, connecting us to economic opportunities and enhancing access to essential services,” she said.
Looking ahead, Governor Aiyedatiwa affirmed that additional projects, including the Ugbonla-Erunna Road with a bridge, distribution of 2,000 electricity prepaid meters, and construction of jetties in 18 communities, are already planned.
