The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed Barrister Sylvester Ezeokenwa as the Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in compliance with a Supreme Court judgement.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, INEC announced that it had acted on the Supreme Court’s ruling in Appeal No. SC/CV/824/2024, APGA & ANOR vs OYE & ORS, delivered on November 27, 2024. The judgement recognized Barr. Ezeokenwa as the legitimate leader of the party.

“Following the apex court’s decision, the Commission has restored Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa as the Chairman of APGA and updated his name on our website accordingly,” INEC stated.

The ruling puts an end to the protracted leadership tussle that has embroiled the party in litigation, providing clarity on its leadership structure.

Speaking on the development, Barr. Ezeokenwa expressed gratitude for the judiciary’s intervention. “This is a victory for democracy and the rule of law. I am committed to leading APGA towards unity and progress,” he said.

Party stakeholders have also welcomed the resolution, calling for unity and collaboration to strengthen APGA ahead of future elections.
