The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, has praised the collaborative efforts between the NCS and other government agencies, particularly the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), following a significant interception at the Tincan Island Port Command.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the Command, the Comptroller-General highlighted the seizure of Cocaine, Colorado, as well as firearms and ammunition valued at N4.279 Billion. The haul included 56.39kg of Cocaine and 955kg of Colorado Indica, alongside five pistols, 445 rounds of live ammunition, and numerous empty pistol magazines.
Adeniyi stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration in combating illicit substances and enhancing national security. He emphasized the effectiveness of joint efforts in leveraging resources and intelligence to safeguard borders and protect citizens from illegal activities.
The Customs Boss reaffirmed the NCS’ commitment to strategic partnerships to bolster its operational capabilities. He underscored the agency’s focus on fostering collaborations with stakeholders to enhance its mandate fulfillment.
During the event, the seized items were handed over to the Chairman of NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa, represented by the Agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi. Marwa commended the synergy between the two agencies, noting that such cooperation sends a strong message to drug cartels, signaling continued losses for criminal enterprises.
The transfer of seized illicit drugs from the NCS to the NDLEA was hailed as a testament to the dedication of security agencies in safeguarding the nation’s territories, with Marwa emphasizing that both airports and seaports remain secure against criminal activities.
