Lagos Blue Rail Line Increases Daily Trips, Slashes Off-Peak Fares by 25%

1 Mins read

Starting Monday, August 12, 2024, the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line will increase its daily trips from 54 to 72, according to an announcement from the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). This expansion is expected to significantly enhance the efficiency and convenience of the rail service, particularly for commuters traveling between Marina and Mile 2.

Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of LAMATA, revealed that the travel time between Marina and Mile 2 will now be reduced to approximately 18 minutes, down from the previous 25 minutes. “This means there will be a train every 18 minutes both ways, giving our commuters the opportunity to plan their trips more effectively,” she stated.

In addition to the increased frequency of trips, LAMATA also announced a 25% discount on fares for those traveling during the off-peak period, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm daily. Engr. Akinajo emphasized that this initiative is designed to reduce journey times, encourage more ridership during less busy hours, and help commuters save on transportation costs.

“The new schedule will not only make commuting faster but also more affordable for our passengers, particularly during off-peak periods,” she added.

The new train schedules can be accessed on the LAMATA website, at various stations, and through the authority’s social media platforms.

Since its commencement on September 4, 2023, the Blue Rail Line has already served nearly two million passengers, marking a significant milestone in Lagos’ public transportation system.

Sunday operations will continue under the current schedule.
