In a significant effort to bolster peace and security in Taraba State, troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade successfully apprehended seven suspected terrorists and recovered a cache of weapons in a series of operations conducted across the state.
On August 7, 2024, troops stationed at Kambari, acting on credible intelligence, swiftly responded to reports of bandits attacking a Fulani settlement in Katlong Village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area. The bandits fled under heavy fire from the troops. One suspected bandit, Yusuf Musa, was apprehended with an AK-47 rifle and 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Additionally, 118 cows, stolen by the bandits, were recovered and returned to their rightful owners.
In a separate operation on August 6, 2024, troops received reliable information about suspected bandits heading to Mashingi Village market in Karim Lamido to purchase food items. Acting on this intelligence, the troops laid an ambush and successfully captured four suspected bandits—Yusuf Hassan, Mohammed Mamman, Haruna Illa, and Hammadu Shaibu. Items recovered from them included a motorcycle, four mobile phones, and 57,000 Naira in cash.
Further strengthening their efforts, on August 9, 2024, troops, acting on a tip-off, arrested two suspects in Magami, Jalingo Local Government Area, who were allegedly preparing to distribute large numbers of machetes to hoodlums. The suspects, Umar Zubair and Isah Abdulahi, were found in possession of 436 machetes, four filling machines, a mobile phone, and various fabrication tools.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the Commander of 6 Brigade, commended his troops for their dedication and swift action. “The safety of the people of Taraba State is our top priority. The Nigerian Army remains committed to maintaining peace and security across the country,” said General Uwa. He urged citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
General Uwa emphasized the Army’s ongoing collaboration with other security agencies and community leaders to eliminate criminal activities within Taraba State and beyond. “The arrested suspects will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution,” he assured.
The Nigerian Army expressed gratitude for the continued support and cooperation from the people of Taraba State, noting that such contributions have been instrumental in the success of their operations. “6 Brigade will remain resolute in its mission to protect lives and ensure a secure environment for all citizens,” concluded General Uwa.
