In a bid to maintain peace and stability, the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has urged youth groups to embrace dialogue and abandon plans for protests. Addressing a gathering of youth leaders, State Commandant Mr. Adedotun Keshinro emphasized the importance of a peaceful atmosphere for development.
Keshinro reiterated the directive from the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to protect critical national assets and infrastructure amidst the proposed protests. These assets include oil and gas pipelines, power installations, telecommunications equipment, railway installations, waterways, national archives, museums, stadia, health facilities, markets, malls, media houses, laboratories, and schools.
In collaboration with other security agencies, the NSCDC has implemented both proactive and reactive measures to ensure the protection of these essential facilities.
Youth groups such as Wedey4U, Youth Assembly of Nigeria, Coalition of Nigerian Youths on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA), and media organization Melody FM pledged their support for peace and dialogue. They assured their commitment to preventing violence, vandalism, and any actions that could disrupt peaceful coexistence.
Keshinro appealed to the youth, saying, “No city, state, or nation can develop without a peaceful atmosphere. Shelve your plans and embrace dialogue. Appeal to your communities and let them know that the times we are in will end in celebration. There is no good war and no bad peace.”
The NSCDC remains dedicated to safeguarding the nation’s infrastructure and ensuring a peaceful resolution to current challenges.
