Lagos State Government has launched the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System (e-CRVS), an innovative system aimed to improve birth certificate accessibility for children aged 0-5 years. This aligned with Nigeria’s commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16.9.2, which seeks legal identity for all.

Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, the Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC), announced this initiative during her visit to the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations. She emphasized the importance of advocacy and sensitization to ensure the success of the census and the establishment of a collaborative committee to streamline efforts and achieve the NPC’s objectives.

“The initiative aims to provide a seamless, efficient, and reliable registration process, streamlining the issuance of Automated Birth Certificates and National ID Numbers for citizens. This digital transformation will significantly reduce paperwork, ensure accuracy in record-keeping, and make it easier for citizens to access essential documents,” Oladunjoye said.

The e-CRVS system will improve access to birth certificates, which are crucial for identity verification, education, and healthcare. Oladunjoye also highlighted how the system will enhance data management, improve policy formulation, and support better governance planning.

Mr. Sadiku, the State Director of the NPC, also provided updates on the Commission’s activities, emphasizing the importance of universal access to the information database.
