The Lagos State Government, through its Ministry of Tertiary Education, is set to launch the Eko Digital Skills Initiative 2024, a free, one-week digital literacy program aimed at empowering youths across the state with critical 21st-century skills.
The program, scheduled to commence on December 2, 2024, will provide participants with training in digital literacy, entrepreneurial development, and problem-solving, using cutting-edge tools and technology.
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Tolani Sule, Commissioner for Tertiary Education said, “The Eko Digital Skills Initiative 2024 is designed to equip over 5,000 young people in the state with the requisite digital skills by 2030, making them more employable and expanding their opportunities and capabilities.”
Highlighting the government’s long-term vision, Sule noted, “This program bridges the gap between the academic curriculum and the demands of the 21st-century workplace. It is also a testament to the government’s commitment to fostering digital inclusion and ensuring our youths are equipped for the future.”
The initiative builds on the success of the recently concluded Job Initiative Lagos, which equipped students in state-owned tertiary institutions with employability and digital skills. However, the Eko Digital Skills Initiative 2024 is set to broaden its reach, targeting out-of-school graduates, aspiring entrepreneurs, and vocational artisans.
“This initiative underscores the government’s dedication to driving community skills development and empowerment, ultimately contributing to Lagos State’s economic growth and development,” Sule added.
