The Media Rights Agenda (MRA), with support from the MacArthur Foundation through the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) under the Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusion, and Accountability (CMEDIA) Project, has commenced a two-day workshop aimed at educating journalists on the laws and regulations affecting the media in Nigeria.
Held on Tuesday, 6th, and Wednesday, 7th of August in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the workshop aims to deepen journalists’ understanding of the legal landscape governing their profession and enhance their capacity to navigate these laws effectively and ethically.
“In today’s rapidly evolving media landscape, workshops like this are more crucial than ever,” stated Edetaen Ojo, Executive Director of MRA, in his opening remarks. Ojo stressed the importance of staying informed about media laws to ensure journalists can operate without undue interference and maintain ethical standards.
“Understanding media laws is essential for several reasons. Knowledge of media laws can help you as journalists to protect your rights and freedoms, ensuring that you can operate without undue interference or fear of retribution,” Ojo emphasized.
