Nat’l Youth Games 2024: North-east Zonal Elimination commenced in Taraba

Five States out of Six have arrived in Jalingo, the capital city of Taraba ahead of the 2024 National Youth Games scheduled for Asaba, Delta state.

Taraba state is hosting the North-East zonal elimination, which commenced on Wednesday, August 28th, and ends on 1st of September, 2024 in Jalingo. 

The participating states are Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Adamawa, and the host, Taraba while Gombe is yet to show up.

The Athletes who are U-15, are expected to feature in nine team sports in the North East zonal contest for them to qualify for the  8th Edition of the National Youth Games in Asaba 2024.

Taraba State Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Amb. Joseph Joshua while speaking with sports journalists welcomed the participants, saying that the state has made necessary arrangements to ensure their comfort and a successful event.

Joshua expressed optimism that the host state, Taraba would make it to the upcoming NYGs in Asaba come September 2024.

According to the Programme of events signed by Mr. George Shitta, Director, Taraba State  Sports Council, the events are spread across various facilities in the Jolly Nyame stadium in Jalingo.

Shitta urged participating states to cooperate with the host, as Taraba state looks forward to a successful hosting of the event.

However, among the journalists who arrived in Jalingo include the SWAN Chairman of Adamawa State, Samuel Gangwaja, and his Secretary, as well as the SWAN ex-zonal Vice President of the northeast, Zakari Jibo among others.
