The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, has clarified allegations surrounding the reported demolition of a mosque under construction at the Nigeria Customs Secondary School in Idiroko. In a response to a viral video alleging that the Officer in Charge of Building ordered the demolition, the Command revealed that the mosque’s construction was initiated without proper approvals, violating the master plan for the school and junior barracks area.

“The construction was unauthorized and did not comply with the approved layout,” stated the Command, emphasizing that its jurisdiction already has adequate facilities for religious activities. The Command pointed out that there are existing mosques and a chapel available in the border area, as well as in the residences and barracks for senior and junior officers. According to the command, “The mosque in the junior barracks was recently renovated and expanded, also under the same Officer in Charge of Building”.

In response to community concerns, Comptroller James Ojo, the Customs Area Controller, has personally intervened, pledging support for a new mosque at an approved site. “I am committed to laying the foundation for a new mosque at a designated location within the premises,” said Ojo, adding that the Command will provide “the necessary support to ensure the project’s timely completion.”

The Command urged all stakeholders to exercise patience and respect the sensitivity of religious issues. “We call on everyone to maintain calm and mutual respect as we work together to uphold harmony within the barracks community,” Ojo advised, cautioning the school administration to foster good relations within and around the school.
