The Nigerian Army’s 8 Division and Sector 2 Joint Task Force (JTF) North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, on Thursday ushered in the festive season with a Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons, bringing together security personnel, their families and community members in Sokoto State.

In a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army, and dated Dec. 12, 2025 states that the event, held at the Giginya Cantonment in Sokoto, was led by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Major General Ibikunle Ademola Ajose, and drew participants from security and paramilitary agencies as well as friends of the cantonment community.

In a goodwill message, Ajose extended Christmas greetings to attendees and commended troops for their dedication to securing the division’s area of responsibility.

“This season is a time for gratitude and reflection,” Ajose said. “I want to extend my deepest appreciation to the gallant men and women of the 8 Division for your tireless efforts. Your commitment, in collaboration with our sister agencies, is worth mentioning. It is through this dedication that we can guarantee a peaceful and secure environment for all.”

He thanked personnel for celebrating the festive season with the division, noting that their sacrifices continued to underpin peace and stability across the region.

The evening featured carol renditions and musical performances by several choirs, including the combined Protestant and Roman Catholic Choir of 8 Division, the Sokoto Deanery Choir and the Organisation of African Independent Churches (OAIC), adding to the atmosphere of reflection and celebration.

The event was also attended by a number of senior officers and representatives of sister security agencies, underscoring inter-agency cooperation in the state.

The Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons served as a show of unity and faith, reinforcing bonds within the 8 Division cantonment community and its host neighbourhoods, the army said.
