Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that Nnamdi Kanu was not discussed in his presence during a recent meeting with the southeastern governors.

The meeting, which included the five southeast governors—Hope Uzodinma of Imo, Alex Otti of Abia, Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, and Peter Mbah of Enugu State—was held to address regional development issues.

Despite speculation that the release of Nnamdi Kanu was on the agenda, the former president clarified that this topic was not discussed during his meeting with the South East governors.

The governors attended the meeting with the former president and Chief Emeka Anyaoku to discuss matters related to regional development.

Chief Obasanjo’s special assistant on media, Kehinde Akinyemi, said in a statement on Wednesday that the meeting focused on regional development issues, including security and infrastructure.

The former president said, “The meeting with them was at my invitation and of Chief Emeka Anyaoku before their summit begins. The issue of Nnamdi Kanu was not on the agenda and was not discussed in my presence.”

“Others were economic and cooperative/collaboration, which was meant to complement the national economic development agenda,” he said.
