The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Monday met with stakeholders, including students and youths ahead of the planned nationwide protest to assure them that ongoing reforms by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will lead to economic recovery.
Aiyedatiwa, while addressing representatives of youth groups from the three senatorial districts of the State, in Akure assured the youths that their welfare remains a priority, promising greater inclusion in his administration.
He urged Nigerians to be more patient with the government, stressing that all indications point in the direction of an improved economy that will alleviate the challenges of the people.
He said, “The President Bola Tinubu administration has beautiful plans to improve the living conditions of the people but sought the understanding of Nigerians, saying Rome was not built in a day.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa also appealed to the sponsors of the nationwide protest to seek a more peaceful option and approach that will promote development, national peace, and political stability.
He said, “Development thrives in a peaceful environment; let us all be united and collectively tackle the prevailing economic hardship confronting the nation.
“We should all avoid a protest that could lead to the destruction of lives and property as this might worsen our economic situation. The EndSARS protest that was hijacked by hoodlums is still fresh in our memories.”
Aiyedatiwa had earlier met with the newly appointed transition committee chairmen in the 18 Local Government Areas and 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) and Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGA).
He emphasized the importance of engaging with local communities, particularly youths, traditional institutions, and opinion leaders.
“Do not underestimate anyone; stay vigilant, engage with the community, and convey to our people that protests are unnecessary, dialogue is the best approach,” Governor Aiyedatiwa urged.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, and the Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement (Central), Mr. Femi Fadairo, echoed the Governor’s commitment to youth welfare.
Youth leaders, including Mr. Tuyi Adekambi, Mr. Fowope Adesina, and Mr. Ibrahim Oladotun, pledged to advocate against violent protests in the State and support the Governor’s efforts.
