Commuters near the 5-Star Bus Stop inward Iyana Isolo experienced significant traffic disruptions on Thursday morning due to a partial collapse of a pedestrian bridge. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) responded promptly to the incident, reporting no casualties or injuries.
Responding swiftly to distress calls made via the state’s 767 and 112 toll-free lines, LASEMA’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) arrived on-site at 6:50 a.m., just minutes after the initial call at 6:41 a.m. The Eagle Response Team discovered that portions of the bridge had fallen, blocking half of the expressway.
Early investigations point to an articulated truck carrying heavy equipment as the cause, colliding with the bridge and leading to its partial collapse.
Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, noted on the importance of the agency’s rapid response and collaboration with other emergency services. “Our primary objective is public safety. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and we’re ensuring a thorough response to clear the obstruction.”
Efforts to manage traffic and ensure public safety were bolstered by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), which activated traffic control measures in coordination with LASEMA’s team. As part of the operation, a heavy-duty forklift, known as “Goliath,” was deployed to begin clearing debris from the roadway.

To mitigate any risk of secondary incidents, LASEMA has also initiated the decommissioning of other damaged sections of the bridge. “Public safety remains our top priority,” Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu affirmed. “We have cordoned off the area, and our equipment is actively working to ensure complete removal of all debris to allow safe passage for commuters.”
While the recovery operation is still ongoing, authorities are optimistic that the disruption will be resolved shortly. Further updates will be provided as the decommissioning efforts continue.
