In a renewed commitment to combat kidnapping and enhance national security, the Nigeria Police Force has successfully executed several operations, leading to the rescue of hostages and the neutralization of criminal elements across the country.
In a remarkable operation on December 31, 2024, police operatives in Kwande LGA, Benue State, rescued a kidnapped victim, Tor Gajir, unhurt after engaging kidnappers in a fierce gun battle. Acting on a distress call, Vandiekya Police Divisional operatives arrested a suspect, Desmond Ahar, who led them to the kidnappers’ hideout in Adikpo. Three kidnappers were neutralized, while others fled with bullet wounds. Two AK-47 rifles, six loaded magazines, and live ammunition were recovered. Efforts to apprehend fleeing suspects are ongoing.
Similarly, on December 28, 2024, Nasarawa State police operatives rescued two hostages along the Keffi-Kaduna Highway after locating an abandoned vehicle suspected to be linked to a kidnapping incident. The victims were rescued unhurt, and a manhunt for the perpetrators is underway.
On January 7, 2025, Bayelsa State police intercepted a suspect, Usman Mohammed, en route to Rivers State. A search revealed concealed weapons, including AK-47 rifles, magazines, and ammunition. The suspect was arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun praised the bravery of the officers and urged them to sustain the momentum in ensuring public safety. He also called on citizens to remain vigilant and collaborate with security agencies to strengthen national security.
