SWAN Taraba Honours Retired Veteran Journalist, Abubakar Sadiq Moyoyo

The Taraba State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) on Monday, December 30, 2024, hosted a reception in honor of Abubakar Sadiq Moyoyo, a veteran journalist and former Deputy President of SWAN, who recently retired from civil service.

Moyoyo, who served at the Taraba State Broadcasting Service (TSBS), Jalingo, was celebrated for his immense contributions to sports journalism and the development of SWAN in Taraba State and beyond.

Speaking during the event, SWAN Chairman Sani Sulaiman described Moyoyo as a pillar in Nigerian sports journalism. He highlighted Moyoyo’s role in establishing a strong SWAN presence in the state and his exceptional leadership at the national level. Sulaiman urged younger members of the association to emulate Moyoyo’s dedication and excellence.

Attendees at the ceremony, including the Director of Administration from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, praised Moyoyo’s legacy. Political analyst Nelson Anthony Manzo, who met Moyoyo for the first time, expressed admiration for the veteran journalist’s resilience and humanity, noting that Moyoyo’s generosity was evident in the heartfelt tributes shared by others.

In his response, Moyoyo, who is also known as Dallatun Bantaje, expressed gratitude to SWAN Taraba for the recognition. He reaffirmed his commitment to journalism, emphasizing that his passion for the profession remains strong despite retirement. He also commended the current SWAN leadership for their progress and called for unity among members to ensure the association’s continued success.
