A diesel tanker overturned and caught fire late on Tuesday along the Abeokuta Expressway inward Agege in Lagos, emergency officials said, leaving one person injured and destroying the vehicle.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the blaze had been contained and responders were working to extinguish residual diesel burning in a nearby drainage channel.

One male victim sustained burn injuries and was receiving treatment, LASEMA said, adding that no fatalities were recorded.

The tanker was completely destroyed by the fire, but the flames did not spread to surrounding properties.

LASEMA Permanent Secretary Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu said the agency was coordinating a multi-agency response involving the fire service, police and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). Further updates were expected, he added.
