he chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Taraba State said on Wednesday that Governor Agbu Kefas had delivered development projects across all 16 local government areas during his three years in office and deserved a second term.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the state’s monthly Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting in Jalingo, ALGON Chairman Moses Maihankali said the governor’s achievements in security, education, agriculture and infrastructure had not received adequate public attention.
Maihankali, who also chairs Kurmi Local Government Council, said improved security under the Kefas administration had restored normal economic activities across the state.
“The primary function of any government is to secure lives and property, and he has done that. Now people are going about their normal businesses,” he said.
He said the administration had revitalised higher institutions, reduced tuition fees, declared a state of emergency in primary education and distributed free school uniforms to pupils.
Maihankali also cited the government’s fertiliser subsidy programme, under which fertiliser was sold to farmers at half its market price, and road rehabilitation projects in the state capital, Jalingo, as key achievements.
He welcomed the establishment of the Nigerian Army’s 10 Division in Taraba, saying the move had contributed to a decline in kidnapping and other security challenges.
Maihankali endorsed Kefas for a second term in the 2027 governorship election, saying the governor’s performance justified another mandate.
“If he has done very well, why should we not return him in 2027?” he said.
He also praised the governor for approving the payment of five months of salary arrears owed to local government workers, primary school teachers and pensioners, noting that some beneficiaries had waited more than a decade to receive the outstanding payments.
Maihankali said his administration in Kurmi Local Government Area would continue to focus on youth development, women’s empowerment and sports development, while sustaining its scholarship programme for medical students and free medical outreach initiatives.
He called on residents of Kurmi and the wider Taraba State to support the state government and maintain peaceful coexistence to advance development.
