The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Jalingo, and District Society has inaugurated its second chairman and district executive members to lead the institute for the next two years.
The investiture ceremony, held in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital, was attended by prominent stakeholders including the 16th National President of the Institute, Samuel Agbeluyl, Chairman of the Taraba State Board of Internal Revenue, Mr Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa, and Taraba State Accountant General, Mr. Gaius Danjuma.
Felicitating the newly elected chairman and other executives, the 16th National President of the Institute, Mr. Samuel Agbeluyl, commended the outgoing pioneer chairman’s leadership qualities and his ability to drive the institute to the height it has attained.

Agbeluyl charged the new executives to be proactive and inclusive, as well as organize capacity-building training for both tax collectors and payers to enhance productivity and encourage tax payment.
The host of the event, Faransa who is the Chairman of the Taraba State Internal Revenue Board, highlighted the importance of revenue collection in achieving Taraba State’s development goals.
He pointed out that, upon his assumption of office, he insisted that the state began to operate a single treasury account (TSA) which, according to him, has blocked many financial leakages and increased the revenue base of the state.
He said with the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas, it won’t be business as usual because things must be done the right way.
He therefore urged the new leadership of the institute and Tarabans to join hands with the governor to build the Taraba of their dreams.

Earlier, in an address of welcome, the Chairman of the occasion, who is the Taraba state Accountant General, Mr. Gaius Danjuma, described the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria as a professional body with an excellent track record that he believes can contribute to the progress of the state.
A resource person at the event, Professor James Alabede spoke on the topic, “Enhancing Revenue Collection Efficiency To Reduce The Fiscal Dependency Of Taraba State.”
According to Prof. Alabede, more than thirty states in Nigeria, including Taraba rely heavily on federal accounts to fund their annual budget.
He emphasized that the government at the sub-national levels must source for ways to accelerate internally generated revenue collection to enable them to move forward.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman of the institute, Mr. Luka Joel Maza, expressed his gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the election and investiture ceremony.
Maza promised that he and his team would not disappoint the confidence reposed in them as they would steer the affairs of the institute based on professional ethics.
The outgoing chairman offered support to the new leadership.
The newly elected officials include Mr. Luka Joel Maza – Chairman, Mrs. Alice Alexander – Vice Chairman, Mr. Shamsudeen Haruna – Secretary, and Mrs. Ruth Ezekiel – Deputy Vice Chairman.
Others are Mr. Ibrahim Baido – Assistant Secretary, Mrs. Julian Amos – Treasurer, Mr. Umar Abdullkadir – Financial Secretary, and two Ex-Officios, Mrs. Dorthy Emmanuel and Mr. Waziri Idris.
The points of the event were an award presentation to dignitaries, including the chairman of the Taraba State Internal Revenue Faransa, and the state Accountant General, Mr. Guius Danjuma.
