President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Oluremi Debbie Olowu, pioneer Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on her 80th birthday, praising her contributions to public service and humanitarian work.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described Olowu, a lawyer and community leader, as a woman whose career was marked by courage, compassion and dedication to humanity.
He said her tenure as NEMA’s director-general from 1999 to 2002 was a defining period in the agency’s development, noting that she helped transform it from a largely relief-focused department into a more structured emergency humanitarian institution.
The president also commended Olowu’s advocacy, generosity and interventions during critical periods, saying her efforts had brought relief and hope to individuals and families facing hardship.
“At 80, your story stands as a testament to what a determined woman can accomplish when intellect is matched with vision, integrity and a deep concern for others,” Tinubu said.
He wished Olowu continued good health, peace, fulfilment and joy, praying that God would bless her with renewed strength in the years ahead.
