Tragedy Strikes at Ikeja Train Station: Man Killed by Train

A tragic incident unfolded at Ikeja Train Station on Monday morning when a male pedestrian was fatally struck by a moving train. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) received distress calls at 8:28 AM and promptly activated its response team.

Upon arrival at the scene at 9:02 AM, LASEMA’s Lagos Response Team (LRT) discovered the lifeless body of an adult male on the train tracks. According to preliminary investigations, the victim was hit by a train in the early hours of the morning.

Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, provided details about the recovery operation. “Our team worked swiftly to recover the body from the railway tracks. We ensured that all necessary protocols were followed to facilitate a proper handover,” he stated.

Following the recovery, the body was transferred to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) for further processing. “SEHMU has taken custody of the body and has moved it to the morgue,” Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed.

The recovery operation concluded efficiently, with LASEMA ensuring that the area was safe for the public. This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers present around train tracks, emphasizing the importance of safety precautions for pedestrians.

As investigations continue, authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines near railway stations.
