In a significant nod to experience, creativity, and cultural depth, Olusegun Michael Ogunjobi has been appointed the new General Manager of Premier FM 93.5, Africa’s first terrestrial radio station. This appointment crowns a vibrant journey that began in drama halls and has matured over two decades into a distinguished broadcasting career.

A native of Ayede-Ekiti, Ogunjobi’s story reads like a modern odyssey through Nigeria’s cultural and media landscape. From his humble beginnings at St. James’ Cathedral Primary School, Oke Bola, Ibadan, to the prestigious Ibadan Boys’ High School, and later University of Ilorin, where he studied Performing Arts with a major in drama, Segun has remained unwavering in his passion for storytelling, stagecraft, and sound.

“Radio for me was a natural progression. My training in theatre gave me the foundation to understand the performance side of broadcasting,” Ogunjobi said.

After completing his youth service in Lafia, Nasarawa State, in 2000, where he earned accolades from the state’s cultural troupe and a federal scholarship, Ogunjobi pursued a postgraduate degree in Theatre Arts, specializing in directing.

His career in Radio Nigeria took off in 2006 when he was employed as a Senior Producer. Since then, he has held various roles, navigating between Ibadan and Lagos, gaining recognition for his creative direction and passion for production.

His professional journey includes notable training under BBC Media Action, where he was an awardee, and a scholarship opportunity offered by Yemi Sonde, CEO of YES FM, to study at the National Broadcasting Academy (NBA), where he later earned distinction.

“It’s been a bumpy ride with moments of smooth sailing. But through it all, my love for culture, spirituality, and purposeful communication has kept me grounded,” he shared.

Now an Assistant Director of Programmes, his new appointment as General Manager of Premier FM which takes effect from the 7th of August is a celebration of years of dedication to both culture and craft.

Known for his moderate social life and preference for light meals, Ogunjobi is also deeply spiritual, with a personal mission to help emancipate people from mental and spiritual slavery.

“This new role is not just a promotion, it’s a platform to inspire, to educate, and to reignite the cultural and spiritual consciousness of our people,” he said with purpose.

With Ogunjobi at the helm, Premier FM looks set to blend cultural revival with modern storytelling, keeping its legacy alive while exploring fresh narratives for a new generation of listeners.
