The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to the South West Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun, at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference in Lagos.

Speaking at the event, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that Amotekun has become a permanent fixture in the state’s security framework and will continue to receive robust funding to enhance its operations.

“The centralized policing structure, once envisioned as the protector and servant of the people, has proven inadequate in the face of the complex and evolving security challenges of our time,” Governor Aiyedatiwa stated. He praised the Amotekun Corps as a “shining example of the transformative power of state-level security,” highlighting their success in making Ondo State one of the most peaceful in the country.

The Governor also strongly advocated for the creation of State Police in Nigeria, describing it as a critical solution to the nation’s ongoing security challenges. “AMOTEKUN has delivered. It has brought a measure of peace and security to our people, a peace that had long been elusive,” he said.

Echoing this sentiment, the Commander of Amotekun in Ondo State, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for continuing the legacy of his predecessor in ensuring adequate funding for the security outfit.

Human rights advocate Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, also commended the Amotekun model, urging the federal government to consider the widespread call for State Police in Nigeria.
