1 Mins read

In the aftermath of the catastrophic fire outbreak on Dosumu Street, Lagos Island, authorities have conducted a comprehensive assessment of the damage incurred. The latest report indicates a significant toll on both property and safety.

Key Findings:

  • Affected Buildings: Four structures have been severely impacted by the inferno.
  • Casualties: Thankfully, no casualties have been reported.
  • Collapsed Buildings: Two buildings have collapsed entirely as a result of the fire.

Detailed Assessment:

  1. Building 1 (47 – 4 Storey): This structure, comprising four stories, collapsed during the blaze. It housed a fabric retail store from the ground floor to the third floor, with the fourth floor serving as residential space.
  2. Building 2 (45 – 3 Storey): Similarly, this three-story building collapsed entirely. It operated as a retail store from the ground floor to the top floor, except for the penthouse, which functioned as an office.
  3. Building 3 (49A – 4 Storey): Assessment reveals that this building is in a distressed state, posing significant risks.
  4. Building 4 (49B – 4 Storey): While this structure sustained partial damage, only the third and fourth floors were affected by the fire.

Ongoing Operations:

Efforts to dampen down the remaining hotspots and secure the area are still underway.

Recommendations:

Considering the extensive damage and collapse of two out of the four affected buildings, authorities strongly recommend demolishing the third building and the collapsed structures to prevent further incidents. Collaborative efforts with the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) are ongoing to address the situation.

Continued Vigilance:

The operation to contain and mitigate the aftermath of the fire remains ongoing under the leadership of Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyitolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA
