Federal Government Increases Passport Fees to Enhance Quality and Integrity

1 Mins read

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced an increase in the fees for the Nigerian Standard Passport, effective from September 1, 2024. This decision, part of ongoing efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the passport, will see a significant rise in the cost of both the 32-page and 64-page passport booklets.

The 32-page passport with a five-year validity, previously priced at Thirty-five Thousand Naira (N35,000.00), will now cost Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00) while the 64-page passport with a ten-year validity will increase from Seventy Thousand Naira (N70,000.00) to One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00).

A statement posted on the official X handle of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and e-Signed by DCI KT Udo,  Service Public Relations Officer Service Headquarters, Abuja acknowledged the potential inconvenience this increase may cause to applicants. “While we regret any inconvenience this increase might cause prospective applicants, we assure Nigerians of our unwavering commitment to transparency and quality service delivery at all times,” he stated.

It is important to note that the new fees will not affect Nigerian citizens residing abroad, as the charges for passports in the diaspora remain unchanged.
