Governor Sanwo-Olu Wins 2024 Consumer Rights Advocate Award at 3rd Consumer Value Awards

Lagos Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu was honored with the 2024 Consumer Rights Advocate Governor of the Year Award during the 3rd edition of the Consumer Value Awards held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. The event, organized by BrandXchange, celebrated excellence in consumer protection and recognized the Governor’s efforts in promoting consumer rights in Lagos State.

In his goodwill message, Sanwo-Olu, represented by Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, the Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, highlighted the importance of consumer empowerment. “Empowering consumers is about giving every individual the tools, knowledge, and assurance to make informed decisions,” he said, emphasizing Lagos State’s commitment to protecting consumer rights through strengthened regulatory reforms and ensuring fairness and transparency in business practices.

The Governor also praised private sector contributions to consumer advocacy, noting that the journey towards a just marketplace requires collective efforts. He concluded by reaffirming his administration’s dedication to maintaining Lagos as a leader in consumer protection across Nigeria and Africa.

Chief Analyst of BrandXchange, Akonte Ekine, lauded consumers for their resilience amid Nigeria’s economic challenges, underscoring the importance of consumer empowerment in today’s challenging economic climate. “Consumers must never be suppressed for speaking out. Their insights and experiences are the true reflection of the marketplace,” Ekine stated, drawing attention to the growing economic hardships facing Nigerians, including inflation and rising living costs. He encouraged brands to stay accountable, listen to consumers, and maintain the trust they’ve earned.

Ekine further congratulated the recognized brands for their excellence and urged them to see the award as a “call to continue the journey of improvement, innovation, and accountability.”

Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, Director General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), through his goodwill message, celebrated the brands recognized during the event. He emphasized that these awards are “a testament to the hard work, passion, and dedication of all persons behind the scenes,” and praised consumers for driving innovation and raising industry standards.

Ekine also thanked the CEO of BrandXchange for his visionary leadership in promoting consumer excellence through the prestigious awards.

The evening ended with a call to continue championing excellence in consumer satisfaction and brand responsibility.
