The MultiNational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has successfully concluded a 4-week training aimed at enhancing its Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) capabilities in the Lake Chad region. The training, held in N’Djamena, was conducted in collaboration with Defence Council International (DCI) and funded by the European Union.
The course focused on critical skills such as basic tracking, intelligence gathering, and the identification of IED components, equipping MNJTF troops with essential counter-terrorism tools. It also included training on IED placement and disposal, along with immediate survivability tactics.
At the closing ceremony, Major General Ibrahim Ali, the MNJTF Force Commander, represented by Deputy Force Commander Air Vice Marshal Mahamat Yaya Mahamat, praised the participants for their dedication. He stressed the significance of the training in improving technical skills and addressing the persistent threat of IEDs in the region.
“This training has not only enhanced MNJTF’s technical capabilities but also fostered a culture of vigilance, adaptability, and continuous learning,” said Mahamat, noting the critical role of intelligence analysis and reconnaissance in ensuring mission success and troop safety.
DCI representative General Caiazzo Stephane (Retired) expressed gratitude to the European Union for its support, while EU representative Mr. Emmanuel Gastine emphasized the importance of the training in countering the rising use of IEDs by terrorist groups. He urged the troops to apply their knowledge in the field to enhance their combat effectiveness.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to participants, marking a significant step in bolstering MNJTF’s ability to counter the evolving threats in the region.
This initiative not only strengthens the MNJTF’s counter-IED capabilities but also underscores the commitment of international partners to achieving lasting peace and security in the Lake Chad Basin.
