Lagos Government Shuts Down Public Toilets for Illegal Sewage Disposal

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has sealed several public toilets in Lagos for illegally discharging sewage and untreated wastewater into the environment.

The affected facilities, including toilets in Katangua Market and Ile-Epo Market along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, were found pumping raw sewage into public drains, posing serious health and environmental risks.

Enforcement officers from the agency carried out the operation after confirming the violations. The General Manager, Engr. Adefemi Afolabi, reiterated the state’s zero-tolerance policy for environmental pollution, warning that any facility violating the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law 2017 would face strict penalties.

He urged public toilet operators to adopt safe and sustainable waste management practices to protect public health and the environment.
