The Lagos State government, through the Ministry of Tertiary Education, has reassured employers of the high caliber of graduates from state-owned tertiary institutions. This commitment was highlighted by Hon. Tolani Sule, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, during the Lagos Students Career Expo held at the University of Lagos over the weekend. The event was attended by students from various state tertiary institutions and potential employers.
Represented by Kike Oduwole, a director in the ministry, Sule emphasized that the Career Expo provided a valuable platform for employers to directly communicate their needs and expectations, thereby helping the ministry to continually enhance the quality of education and training provided.
Sule noted the significant investments made by the state government in developing manpower, facilities, infrastructure, and creating conducive learning environments across its institutions. He encouraged students to leverage the Expo to engage with employers, seek job opportunities, and gain insights into career development that align with sustainable career goals.
Acknowledging the competitive job market, Sule urged students to step out of their comfort zones, embrace innovation, and cultivate multicultural competence to distinguish themselves among many job seekers. He assured employers that the current peaceful environment and consistent academic calendar in state institutions reflect the administration’s dedication to maintaining world-class standards.
Organizer Salaam Abimbola expressed gratitude to the state government for its commitment to quality education, affirming that the Expo aimed to bridge the gap between education and employment, ultimately providing job opportunities for students.
The Career Expo serves as a feedback mechanism for the ministry and a vital link between students and the job market.
