Lagos State authorities will begin the controlled demolition of the structurally compromised Great Nigeria Insurance House on Lagos Island on Friday, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said.

The agency advised residents, traders, motorists and other members of the public to avoid the immediate vicinity during the operation, warning that access would be restricted for safety reasons.

Temporary traffic diversions may also be introduced as necessary, LASEMA said in a public safety advisory issued by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu.

The agency said it would coordinate safety arrangements with relevant government agencies throughout the demolition exercise.

It urged motorists to use alternative routes where necessary and advised the public to comply with instructions from emergency responders and traffic management officials.
