In a swift response to a lone accident, the Lagos State Government (LASG) successfully evacuated a tanker carrying 33,000 litres of oil that toppled over near the Abalti Barracks, Ojuelegba, towards Fadeyi, Lagos, on Friday.
Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), reported that upon the agency’s arrival at the scene, it was evident that the tanker, with registration number DAL-250ZY, had fully loaded with engine oil and had toppled sideways due to a solitary accident.
The incident, attributed to brake failure as the tanker ascended the bridge, resulted in the vehicle losing control and flipping over. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported, and there was no immediate threat of ignition.
The LASEMA team, alongside other emergency responders including the Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Transport Management Authority, Federal Fire Service, and the Nigerian Police Force, swiftly activated heavy-duty equipment for the recovery operation.
Oke-Osanyintolu assured the public that recovery efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety of other road users. He noted that the tanker has been repositioned with the assistance of the agency’s heavy-duty equipment, the Elephant, and efforts continue to tow the truck to a lay-by for further assessment and clearance. Updates on the operation will be provided as the situation progresses.
