Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has called on citizens to embrace the virtues of love, kindness, and generosity as they celebrate the Christmas season. Speaking at the 2024 State Service of Carols and Nine Lessons held at The Dome in Akure on Thursday, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the importance of reflection and renewal during the festive period.

“Christmas is not just a day; it is a frame of mind,” the Governor said. “Our celebration must embody the virtues and principles of Christ, for Jesus Christ is the reason for this season.”

The Governor expressed gratitude for the peace and stability in the state, particularly following the November 16 governorship election, describing the outcome as a “collective victory” dedicated to God and the people of Ondo State.

“We serve a living God that truly loves us, the Almighty who overlooks our imperfections to rescue us from the vicissitudes of life. Of remarkable testament to His endless grace is the peace and calmness we witnessed across the State,” he said.

Reflecting on his administration’s achievements since taking office in December 2023, Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted the implementation of a new minimum wage of ₦73,000, ongoing infrastructure projects, and advancements in education, security, and agriculture. He also unveiled his administration’s new development framework, ‘OUR EASE,’ which focuses on areas like technological advancement, efficient healthcare, sustainable agriculture, and education.

“The ‘OUR EASE’ agenda builds on the gains of the Redeemed Agenda to ensure we continue to deliver impactful development to the people of Ondo State,” he added.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also called for patience and understanding as Nigeria undergoes economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He described these reforms as vital for long-term collective growth.

In his sermon during the event, the Ondo State PFN Chairman, Bishop Joshua Kolawole Opayinka, urged attendees to embrace the joy, peace, and hope that the birth of Christ represents. “This season reminds us to share the light of Christ with others,” he said.

The carol service was attended by top government officials, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries, including Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami, Secretary to the State Government, Tayo Oluwatuyi, and Chief Judge Justice Olusegun Odusola.

Governor Aiyedatiwa concluded by urging citizens to reflect on the season’s virtues and foster unity. “A good conscience is a continual Christmas. Let us use this time to rebuild bonds and renew our shared commitment to progress,” he said.
