The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has championed entrepreneurship as a transformative force to eradicate poverty and spur sustainable development. Speaking on Friday at the opening of the Global Entrepreneurship Festival, held at The Dome, Akure, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the importance of entrepreneurial spirit in driving economic and social progress.

“Entrepreneurship is the life-blood of innovation, the catalyst for economic growth, and the driving force behind social progress. It is the entrepreneurs among us who dare to dream, take risks, and push boundaries to create new opportunities and solve real-world problems,” said Governor Aiyedatiwa.

The three-day festival, the first of its kind in Nigeria, aims to celebrate entrepreneurial achievements, inspire collaboration, and provide a platform for innovative ideas to thrive. The Governor described the event as pivotal for shaping the socio-economic future of Ondo State and Nigeria as a whole.

Highlighting Ondo State’s potential, Aiyedatiwa noted its strategic advantages, including its position as Nigeria’s fifth-largest producer of hydrocarbons, significant cocoa exports, and the promise of the proposed Ondo Deep Seaport. “Our state is uniquely positioned for investment, with boundless opportunities in oil and gas, agriculture, tourism, and infrastructure development,” he added.

The event’s focus on fostering innovation was echoed by the Chairman of the Entrepreneurship Village Board, Mr. Dan Walkovitz. He described the Entrepreneurship Village as a game-changer for business development in the region.

“The Entrepreneurship Village will provide a platform for mentorship, funding, and innovation. It is a place where dreams are turned into reality, and where the next generation of global leaders will emerge,” Walkovitz said.

Renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist Mrs. Folorunso Alakija, delivering the keynote address, urged participants to seize opportunities to transform their communities. “Entrepreneurship is a powerful tool for transforming lives and lifting communities out of poverty. This festival is not just about business; it’s about empowering individuals to realize their potential and contribute meaningfully to society,” she said.

Summy Smart Francis, the Special Adviser on Entrepreneurship to the Governor and Project Lead of the festival, lauded Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to youth empowerment. “What the world once considered impossible has now been accomplished in Ondo State as we proudly host the first-ever Global Entrepreneurship Festival in Nigeria,” Francis remarked. The festival will feature panel discussions, networking sessions, and exhibitions.
