Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has announced plans to establish transition committees for the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in preparation for the upcoming local government elections in the state.
The declaration was made during a meeting between Governor Aiyedatiwa and former members of Caretaker Committees of the LGAs and LCDAs at the Governor’s Office in Akure.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also reassured the public that his administration has no intentions to abolish the recently created LCDAs in the state, emphasizing that their establishment stands as a significant legacy of the late former Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, which must be upheld.
Addressing the 255 former appointees, the Governor attributed the delay in their inauguration and assumption of office to a court case filed by the opposition party, along with a subsequent court injunction.
He assured that efforts are underway to resolve the legal matter through a political solution, which has been approved by the court. Once the case is withdrawn, necessary corrections will be made to the list of appointees, and transition committees will be inaugurated.
Governor Aiyedatiwa urged the former appointees to exhibit unwavering commitment to the party within their respective local government areas, emphasizing the importance of unity for the progress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the development of the state.
Engr. Ade Adetimehin, the State APC Chairman, echoed the Governor’s call for unity within the party and commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for engaging with party members.
Speaking on behalf of the former appointees, Hon. Olaniyi Gbenga and Mrs. Funke Kumuyi expressed gratitude to the Governor for the interaction and pledged their loyalty and support to his administration.
