The Ondo State Government has unveiled plans to commence a biometric verification exercise for public servants to enhance efficiency and accountability within its civil service. The announcement was made during a press briefing on Tuesday, following the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa in Akure.
Speaking on the initiative, the Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philip, emphasized the importance of the verification process.
“The essence of this biometric verification is to know the respective levels of every public servant. It is not intended to scare anyone but rather to ensure accountability within the system,” he said.

Additionally, the government has commenced the payment of the N73,000 new minimum wage for civil servants. Mr. Philip expressed gratitude on behalf of public servants, stating,
“On behalf of all public servants in Ondo State, I express our gratitude to Governor Aiyedatiwa for keeping to his promise. I urge civil servants to double their productivity and make the all-round development of the state their priority.”
Development Projects in Focus
The government also outlined several development initiatives across key sectors. Commissioner for Education Laolu Akindolire revealed that Governor Aiyedatiwa has approved a N1 billion project for constructing a senate building at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, with an initial deposit of N500 million.“Plans are also in place for the renovation of primary, secondary, and technical schools to enhance the learning environment,” Akindolire added.
Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Emmanuel Igbasan, highlighted the government’s commitment to youth empowerment through skill acquisition programs aimed at creating wealth and reducing unemployment.
Leadership and Health Updates
In a move to strengthen grassroots leadership, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, announced the approval of new traditional rulers in various communities, including Prince Hosea Julius Bladapo as the Takunbe of Ipoke and Prince Akingomi Olasehinde John as the Laragunsin of Ode-Iyansan.
On public health, Special Adviser on Health, Prof. Simidele Odimayo, reported a significant reduction in Lassa fever cases, attributing it to collaborative efforts between the government and residents.
“Citizens are urged to maintain clean environments, drink safe water, and practice proper hygiene to prevent future outbreaks,” he advised.
Commitment to Socio-Economic Growth
Commissioner for Information and Orientation Otunba Wale Akinlosotu assured residents of the governor’s commitment to transformative projects.“The State Executive Council reaffirms its dedication to improving the quality of life for residents. The year 2025 will mark a turning point in the socio-economic development of the state,” he said.
