The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has pledged unwavering support for veterans and fallen heroes of the Nigerian Armed Forces during the launch of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal Fund. The event, held at the Cocoa Conference Centre, Akure, marked the start of activities to honour military personnel who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Aiyedatiwa described the emblem as a profound symbol of gratitude and commitment.“The launch of this emblem is not just a ceremonial act; it is a solemn pledge to support our veterans, provide them with the recognition they deserve, and honour the values for which they have fought so bravely,” he said.

The governor announced a donation to the Nigerian Legion, Ondo State Chapter, to support ex-servicemen, widows, and dependents of fallen heroes. He emphasized his administration’s responsibility to alleviate the hardship faced by families of fallen heroes and injured veterans.
“On our part as a responsible and responsive government, we shall not shy away from paying attention to the welfare of widows and dependent relatives of our fallen heroes within the limit of our resources,” he added.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also called on corporate organizations, government institutions, and individuals to contribute generously to the appeal fund, describing it as a collective duty to support those who defended the nation.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Lola Fagbemi, lauded the governor for his dedication to veterans’ welfare, emphasizing the significance of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
“This is an opportunity to honour the sacrifices of military personnel who laid down their lives for the nation,” she said, urging stakeholders to support the fund.

Col. Olu Apata (Rtd), Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Ondo State Chapter, applauded the government’s continued support.
“The emblem represents patriotism and unity. I urge all citizens to wear it with pride as a mark of respect for the sacrifices of the Armed Forces,” Apata said.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami, and traditional rulers. Activities for the remembrance celebration will include a Jum’mat service on January 10, a Christian service on January 12, and a military parade with a wreath-laying ceremony on January 15, 2025, at the Government Cenotaph, Alagbaka, Akure.
