Over 300 Athletes Arrive in Jalingo for the Maiden Edition of the NEDC Sports Tournament

Arrangements have been finalized for the commencement of the 2024 NEDC Secondary Schools Sports Tournament in Taraba State. The event will take place at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo, with the theme “Promoting Peace, Unity, and Regional Integration.”

The sports competitions will include basketball, lawn tennis, athletics, table tennis, and football.

Speaking with sports journalists in Jalingo on Monday, October 28, 2024, the Managing Director of Scape Sport and Event Development Limited, Dr. Sam Timothy, stated that they were in the state on behalf of the NEDC to organize the event. He emphasized that the competition aims to unite youth from the sixteen Local Government Areas (LGAs), including the Yangtu Special Development Area, highlighting the initiative by the NEDC as commendable.

Dr. Sam Timothy explained that over three hundred athletes would participate in the tournament. He also revealed that accommodation and sports kits have been provided for both athletes and officials.

He also mentioned that three square meals would be offered to participants throughout the tournament. Expressing his expectations for the event, Dr. Timothy said he anticipates nothing short of a glorious outing for the participating schools.

It is important to note that Dr. Sam Timothy is a chairman of various sports events and a member of the Handball National Sports Federation, bringing a wealth of experience to this initiative.

The tournament is expected to conclude on Friday, November 1, 2024, with the winners from the six states of the North-East gathering in Bauchi State for the finals.
