The government of Plateau State has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area after a deadly attack in the Gari Ya Waye community of Angwan Rukuba left several people dead and others injured, officials said on Sunday.

The curfew, which takes effect from midnight on March 29, was announced following what authorities described as a “barbaric and unprovoked” assault on residents. It will remain in force until April 1, as security forces intensify efforts to restore order and track down those responsible.

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang condemned the killings, vowing that perpetrators would be apprehended and brought to justice. He said the government was working closely with security agencies to prevent further violence and protect lives and property.

Local authorities did not immediately provide an official death toll, but said multiple casualties had been recorded, with several victims receiving treatment for injuries.

Residents have been urged to remain indoors, stay calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing any information that could assist investigations. Security presence has been reinforced across affected areas, with checkpoints mounted and patrols intensified.

Plateau State, located in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, has a history of communal tensions that periodically flare into violence, often prompting swift curfews and security crackdowns aimed at containing unrest.
