The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has announced with deep sorrow the passing of Lt. General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and elder statesman. General Useni passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 82 after a protracted illness.
In a statement issued in Jos, Governor Mutfwang described the loss as a significant blow to the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the nation at large. He extolled General Useni’s legacy of service and his impactful contributions to Nigeria’s security and political landscape.
Governor Mutfwang highlighted Useni’s distinguished career, which included roles as Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and FCT Minister. He also praised his political contributions as Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and Senator representing Plateau South under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
“His tireless efforts to promote peace and security in Plateau State and beyond will always be remembered,” the Governor said, emphasizing the late General’s compassion, generosity, and dedication to public service.
The Governor extended condolences to Useni’s family, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and all those mourning the loss of the elder statesman. He prayed for strength and solace for all affected by this irreplaceable loss.
