In a renewed effort to combat open defecation and promote a cleaner, healthier environment, WaterAid Nigeria in collaboration with the Lagos Waste Forum and the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources will officially launch its “End Open Defecation and Clean Lagos” campaign on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

The campaign flag-off ceremony is scheduled to hold at the iconic Musical Village on Awolowo Road, Ikorodu, with Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, the Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, serving as Chairman of the event.

Her Excellency, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, will grace the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour.

The initiative is part of a larger push to improve public hygiene, promote safe sanitation practices, and raise awareness on the health risks associated with open defecation. It also aligns with the state’s broader goal of achieving a clean, livable, and sustainable Lagos for all.

Organisers say the campaign will engage communities directly, promote behaviour change, and amplify the message that a clean Lagos is a shared responsibility.

The event is expected to attract key stakeholders in environmental management, development partners, community leaders, and youth advocates working to make Lagos open-defecation free.
