1 Mins read

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, has called for extreme caution among residents of Ukanafun Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State following a gas leak reported at Ikot Ukpong. The leak, which occurred along the Right of Way (ROW) of a pipeline operated by Savana Energy Ltd., has raised safety concerns in the area.

In response to the incident, the Minister assured the affected residents that efforts are underway to address the situation. “I am in contact with relevant regulatory agencies and stakeholders from both the Federal and Akwa Ibom State Governments to identify the cause of the leak and restore normalcy as quickly as possible,” Ekpo stated.

He also emphasized the importance of not tampering with critical assets, urging the community to report any suspected leaks to the appropriate authorities rather than attempting to benefit from the situation. “Such actions can lead to serious injury or even loss of life,” Ekpo warned.
