AAUA Honours Aiyedatiwa with Doctorate Degree

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has been conferred with a Doctor of Public Administration (honoris causa) by Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), in recognition of his exceptional contributions to governance, public administration, and human capital development.

The prestigious award was presented to the Governor during the university’s 13th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Multipurpose Hall. The institution described the award as a testament to Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to the socio-economic advancement of Ondo State.

Speaking at the event, Governor Aiyedatiwa dedicated the award to the people of Ondo State and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to education and sustainable development.

“This prestigious recognition is a testament to our remarkable contributions and outstanding achievements in our various fields. I dedicate this award to the people of Ondo State, whose resilience and support inspire my administration,” the Governor said.

Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted his administration’s significant investments in education, citing the allocation of ₦1 billion to the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, and ₦1.2 billion to Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, for infrastructural development.

“We are determined to ensure Adekunle Ajasin University continues to thrive by addressing funding, infrastructure, and staff welfare challenges. This administration is fully committed to producing graduates capable of excelling in the 21st century,” he added.

In a message to the graduating students, Governor Aiyedatiwa urged them to leverage their education for societal transformation.

“Education is a powerful tool, and with it comes the responsibility to contribute meaningfully to society. Whether as entrepreneurs, professionals, or academics, let your actions reflect the training and principles you have received here,” he advised.

The Vice-Chancellor of AAUA, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for his visionary leadership, describing him as “a statesman committed to advancing the socio-economic well-being of Ondo State.” He noted that the honorary doctorate underscores the Governor’s transformative impact on education, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.

Dr. Tunji Abayomi, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, also praised the Governor, congratulating him on his recent electoral victory. He reaffirmed AAUA’s reputation as the best state university in Nigeria and one of the top 10 universities in the country, urging stakeholders to support its aspirations for global recognition.

In addition to receiving the honorary degree, Governor Aiyedatiwa performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a 250-bed hall of residence for the university.

The convocation also witnessed the conferment of honorary degrees on Hon. Adegboyega Adefarati, a federal lawmaker, and Mr. Hazmat Ayodele Subair.
